Steven Pinker describes Chomsky in one of his books as “a pencil-and-paper theoretician who wouldn’t know Jabba the Hutt from the Cookie Monster”. I would not be surprised at all if he had never heard of Ali G.
When I last interviewed Chomsky, I quoted something Jon Stewart had said on The Daily Show. It was clear from his reaction that he had no idea what I was talking about. And only a few minutes earlier, he’d complained about “all the young people” who get their news mainly “from late-night TV.”
