ISKRA (from Canada, no less) are one of the few politically right-on metal bands I can think of. (Chck’em out– very anto-capitalist and anti-racst: http://www.myspace.com/hellonfire )

Answered my own question http://www.iskra.ws/interviews.html:

What does ISKRA mean?

Wolf: Iskra is a Russian word meaning ’spark’ or ‘light.’ For me, its a nice sounding word with wonderful connotations. Of course it also conjures up associations with certain Marxist organizations, the famous Leninist paper, which shares this title, immediately comes to mind. Its sort of a humorous nudge to those people, since we are obviously opposed to any Marxist ideologies.

“Obviously”? Is this some anarchist tic? You just have to be “anti-Marxist” even when you’re not necessarily anti-Marxist? Or maybe they just don’t like Marx’s speech on free trade.

hey there! thanks for the kind words.
“obviously anti-marxist” yes-anarchists, being opposed to state power, are anti-marxist. in fact, bakunin and marx were contemporaries, and friends for a time. bakunin’s ideas are very similar to marx but save one major point(i’m sure there were many small ones!); marx believed the state must continue to exist but would eventually become obsolete while bakunin believed that,if the state was kept around, those in power would not relinquish. As it happened(and still is)the state in marxist regimes became very powerful. the class system in a marxist government is even more pronounced between rich and poor, with very little middle. stalin’s marxist government was a bloodbath. anyway, although many marxist ideas are great, most anarchists oppose marxism. what was is marx said on his deathbed? oh yeah: “I am not a marxist!” even he did not agree with how marxist ideas were being interpreted. so maybe that has something to do with it. blah blah blah
