Re: English language reports on today’s Latin American leaders summit

Despite scare headlines about crises and divisions preceding the summit, the Guardian reports Lula’s strong statement of support for Bolivia’s action, which he described as “a necessary adjustment for a suffering people who have the right to demand great power over their riches”. His comments were made despite “repeated fire this week” from the Brazilian bourgeoisie, fretting about the prospect of higher gas prices.

What’s up with this? Are Lula’s neighbors giving him some backbone? Is he facing domestic criticism from non-bourgeois circles for having been so weak, and now looking bad by comparison with Chavez and Morales? Wuzzup?
