Update on Walgreens, American Girl, and Other Projects

                 NOTE: Some of these issues

were sent via the AFA Action Alert

I wanted to give you an update on several issues we’ve addressed over the past few weeks. Please continue to stand with us in the culture battle for our families, especially our children.

Let me encourage you to review these issues and take action on the ones you have not yet taken action on. You can do so by clicking on the title of the issue. We will continue to monitor them and let you know when important changes occur.

Update: Walgreens is replying to consumers stating their sponsorship allows them “to have a presence at the official site of the games and set up portable pharmacies, from which well distribute HIV information and have pharmacists available for counseling.”

Many of you have told us you see right through their “canned response.” You know Walgreens’ is using HIV/AIDS education as a cover for their strong financial commitment to the gay games themselves.

Ironically, the company’s Web site states Walgreens’ charitable funds will not be used to support “sports teams or any sports-related activity or competition.”

Walgreens seemed to be caught off-guard when confronted about the policy by a news reporter. After hesitating to answer, the spokesman said he’d refer the question elsewhere for clarification.

He later said the contribution does not violate Walgreens established policy since the funding is for HIV/AIDS outreach and education, not for any specific sporting event. This despite the fact that they gave the money specifically to the Gay Games, which is a sporting event!

Ultimately, Walgreens top “Premium Level” donation helps the Gay Games Committee pay for the organization and promotional efforts for sports-related activities and competitions. The committee also uses sponsor dollars to promote other activities such as “Party Events” and “Clubs/Bars Events” which are posted on the gay games website.

Update: We have delivered our petition to Commissioner Selig on your behalf. Thank you for being one of 117,220 people who signed the petition.

Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig has been very quiet on the issue, as has been the Washington Nationals team. One source says, “As of right now there have been no developments. There will be no talk of anything until after the World Series.”

Update: Target continues to stand by its decision to ban Salvation Army bell ringers from their stores, making it the largest retailer in America to do so.

Target says they will not carry the vibrator toy as earlier suggested in a news article, but confirms it will sell the lotions, intimacy (stimulating) gels, and other products associated with it.

Update: Within hours of our email alert, American Girl changed their website and removed the link to Girls Inc. from their site. They then moved all references to Girls Inc. from the homepage to a secondary webpage.

News reports state American Girl has no plans to drop their close association with Girls Inc. and will continue giving the group financial donations.

In addition, American Girl changed the text of the “I Can” bracelet program, stating the donations are “earmarked” for non-lesbian, non-abortion promotional activities. This financial support designation simply frees up others monies at Girls Inc. for political and social advocacy activities.

http://www.afa.net/petitions/signpetition.asp?id=1440Finally!!! A Major, Mainstream Media Person Tells The Truth About The ACLU. Tell Him Thanks!

Update: On his program on October 12, Bill O’Reilly exposed the ACLU for what it is. His is the strongest, most accurate definition of the ACLU that I have ever seen or read by a member of the mainstream media.

Your letter of thanks was mailed to Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly on Friday, October 21. More than 123,000 people signed the letter to Bill O’Reilly.

Mr. O’Reilly acknowledged your letter on his Oct. 27 program, saying, “But we do have millions of allies on this program. And sometimes I’m guilty of not mentioning them enough. The American Family Association, for example, sent me a C.D. containing more than 100,000 names of folks who appreciate our reporting on the ACLU. And we appreciate this show of support. It’s really amazing.

“The only way to defeat progressive secularism is for Americans who oppose it to stand up and be counted. Ridiculous? Only if you think democracy is ridiculous. Thanks again to the AFA.”

Again, please take action on the items above, if you haven’t already done so.

Your financial support[…]

Thanks for caring enough to get involved. And please forward this to your family and friends. Together, and with God’s help, we are making a difference.

Sincerely,

Don

As Christians we need to stand on rights to say “Merry Christmas” in Walmart, K-Mart, etc. We can do intelligently and reprepresent Christ by saying “Merry Christmas” when a cashier (as mandated by their organizations) says “Happy Hollidays”.

  2. Mary Mary Says:

Wow! I’d like to thank my friend Mike at yahoo.com for providing the URL for your site.
Here it is Thanksgiving morning, and I’m thanking God for all good things…and now I see
there are lots of things this “non-political” person has to think (deeply) about! A young
woman told me (re: my “non-political” or no voting status) “you’re just letting them take more
of your rights away”…how right she is! I think it’s time I set up a web page & import some
blogs (as I did in the past). Things like this give you something much more important to talk
about than the weather. In response to Wilma Cox re: the programmed “Happy Holidays” at the
checkout, just a quick reply along similar lines. How many of you have gone shopping at about
11 PM & had the cashier wish you a “Nice day”? My usual reply to these poor corporate robots
is “Thank you. I DID have a nice day!” I used to work in retail sales…and we were never
told that we had to specifically avoid any reference to the true HOLIDAY (Christmas) or for our
Jewish friends (Hanukah)! So a thanks to Sally Beauty for letting their cashiers retain their
own beliefs AND their own responses to the customer…rare nowadays, I’m sure! Thanks for the
    food for thought! Mary Mary

I will not watch the story about
Daniel. To me it is immorle.
    See 1 Corinthians 7:4
    Romans 1:26-27

  4. Carla Vornheder Says:

We need to be careful that too much protest of Daniel doesn’t make it more popular than it would otherwise be. We need to say what we think and then move on to another subject and not harp on that one. If we pour on the steam on this issue, . . . people probably already have established shows that they watch at that night and time. They’re not going to change their viewing habits unless we, by creating TOO much of a fuss, give them a reason to. It seems like the most effective thing to do is to come behind and tell people: “Hey, did you know that Daniel got it all wrong?” Well, everybody wants to be “in the know.” If we say it in a winsome way and don’t have a history of bludgeoning people with truth, we could use “Daniel” as a door through which we could slip the gospel. “Daniel” is evidence of a spiritual hunger, though a misguided one. If we meet that hunger with only disapproval and anger and don’t offer the gospel in the same breath, then we’ve lost a God-given opportunity.

  5. Milton H. Pray Says:

I recently attended a meeting with a group of ministers in my area. I passed out the information you sent by e-mail on Walmart and their support of gays and lesbians and giving them $25,000.00 and prefer buying from their group first. I made copies and passed out information about contacting Rob Walton and letting him know how we feel about this issue. I’ve asked my congregation to no longer shop at Walmart to let them know where we stand and that we as Christians can make a difference if we would stand unified. I’ve encouraged other pastors to ask the same of their congregations.
One pastor asked me, “How do you know for sure that AFA is correct in this matter?” You should have checked before passing out this pass along letter.
I beleive what AFA has said but could you send me by way of e-mail more proof of this matter.
I did go see the manager of the Super Walmart here in town and could only speak to the assistant manager. She was to pass the information on to the manager about Christians no longer shopping their any longer.
    Please respond quickly.
    Thanks

  6. Sue Cass Says:

Charter Communications has removed a Christian channel from their programming. It’s called Day Star network. This is just another example of how Chritianity is trying to be obliterated from television. We only have three Christian stations on this cable network. How long will it take before the other two are cancelled also? Hopefully A.F.A. can help with this problem.
May God continue to bless this ministry.
    In Christ;
    Sue Cass

  7. Sue Cass Says:

I think a petition should be sent out regarding what Charter Communications is doing.
