RE: A Delphi worker on Delphi

I keep hearing figures like this. Do line workers actually make that much money? I took a look at the UAW website, and the wage rates posted there indicate that under the present contract a line worker could earn about $65,000 in salary and bonuses. I’m sure the benefit package pushes the value of yearly compensation over $100k, but actual earnings aren’t in that range, are they?
With overtime they can, yes. Some years ago, when I was first doing my radio show, I interviewed a UAW official (whose name escapes me now). It was during the boom, and I brought up the issue of overwork. He said the members have no interest in reduced worktime because they like pulling in $100k/yr.
That’s probably history now, but with fringes, the total package must be around $100k.
