For some reason FOX dropped Mike Judge’s Idiocracy from big theater distribution just prior to its release. Maybe it’s because he pokes fun at FOX being the dominant news network of the future, hosted by American gladiator types? A lot of folks seem to think the movie is itself low-brow, instead of a condemnation of the low brow-ization of American culture.

Years ago, I hung out a few times with the former head writer of
Beavis & Butt-head, Glenn Eichler. (His then-10-year old son, by the
way, was clearly the model for Daria - total dead ringer.) I asked
Eichler how ironic the series was supposed to be. He said it was, but
that it wasn’t Judge’s doing. The pilot that Judge made for B&B had
them hammering frogs and stuff. He said the irony came when the smart- ass New York Jews took over. Maybe he was overstating the role of the
pros.
