exporting GHG to China
I asked Elizabeth Economy what share of Chinese greenhouse gases come
from U.S. demand. Here’s her answer:
Can’t even begin to calculate…most GHG from burning coal…
industries such as electricity, steel, building materials, etc. Are
40 percent more energy intensive in China than in other
countries…they contribute to build factories that export to US,
but hardly likely that this is a significant part of the problem.
China’s urbanization push, inability to control local investment in
inefficient heavy industries, these are the real challenges.
